🧭 My Story: Why I’m Choosing Not To Retire

Most people my age talk about slowing down. They count the years, the months, and even the days until they can officially “retire.”
But me? I’m not counting down. I’m still clocking in — and honestly, I’m okay with that.

Still Working, Still Growing

I’m the athletic equipment manager at the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota.
It’s a busy job, but one that fits me perfectly. Every day I’m around college athletes — young men and women filled with energy, goals, and determination.
Working with them keeps me young. It reminds me what drive looks like. And even though some days are long (and not every task is glamorous), I still feel like I’m part of something bigger than myself.

That’s something I don’t want to lose.

Why I Haven’t Retired Yet

There are a few reasons I’ve chosen to keep working. Some are practical; others are personal.

💵 Financial Considerations

Let’s be honest — the cost of living keeps going up, and a steady paycheck helps me live comfortably and plan for the future.
But money isn’t the whole story. I’m not working just to earn. I’m working because it gives my days rhythm and purpose.

❤️ I Genuinely Enjoy What I Do

Being around college athletes, coaches, and staff makes me feel useful. I like the challenges — whether it’s managing gear, solving logistical issues, or just helping a student get what they need.
It’s a role that matters, and it feels good to know my work helps the program run smoothly.

🧠 I Like the Routine (Most of the Time)

Sure, there are days I’d rather stay home or sleep in, but having responsibilities keeps me focused.
It gives me a reason to wake up early, stay active, and keep learning.

What Retirement Would Look Like for Me

If I retired, I know I’d have free time — but I also know myself well enough to admit I might not use it well.
I’m single. I don’t need to travel the world to feel fulfilled.
And while I enjoy golf, I don’t need to play it every day.

For me, it’s not about escaping work — it’s about finding purpose.

A Purpose to Wake Up For

Having a reason to get out of bed each morning is what keeps me alive — mentally and physically.
Some people find that purpose in volunteering, traveling, or spending time with family.
For me, it’s working, staying active, learning new skills, and exploring side hustles that keep me curious.

I like the feeling of being useful. I like staying connected. I like feeling like I still have more to contribute.

That’s why I’m choosing not to retire — because purpose, growth, and connection don’t have an age limit.

The Journey Ahead

This site is part of my second act.
I’ll share what I’m learning about staying healthy, building online income, and living with intention.
If you’re like me — not ready to slow down, still eager to learn, still curious about what’s next — then welcome.

You’re not alone.

Choosing Not to Retire isn’t just a decision.
It’s a way of living — with purpose, energy, and gratitude for every day we still get to wake up and try again.

💬 Closing Thought

“Don’t retire from something — retire to something.”

That’s what I’m doing.
And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
